China-Arab trade volume hits $407.4 billion in 2024, up 2.3 percent YoY

Trade volume between China and Arab countries rose by 2.3 percent year-on-year in 2024, reaching $407.4 billion. This growth reinforces China's position as the leading trading partner for the Arab world for several consecutive years. Chinese Assistant Minister of Commerce Yuan Xiaoming reported that Chinese exports to Arab nations totaled $206 billion, while imports from these countries reached $201.4 billion. Yuan Xiaoming highlighted the significant advancements in economic and trade cooperation over recent years, with bilateral investments extending into sectors such as metal smelting, building materials manufacturing, cotton textile production, and aquaculture. Notably, Arab sovereign wealth funds and companies have ramped up their investments in China's petrochemical, new energy, and emerging technology sectors. Infrastructure cooperation has also made remarkable strides, while emerging fields like e-commerce, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence demonstrate robust growth potential. In the first four months of 2024 alone, trade climbed 3.8 percent year-on-year to historic highs, accounting for nearly 7 percent of China's total foreign trade value during that period. The United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia represent the top six Arab trade partners of China, constituting about 85 percent of the total volume. Chinese exports include automobiles and textiles, with notable year-on-year increases of 66.3 percent and 3.2 percent respectively between January and April 2024. Meanwhile, Arab countries are a significant source of energy imports for China, accounting for 38 percent of China's energy product imports in early 2024. Additionally, trade between China's private enterprises and Arab countries reached 497.14 billion yuan, reflecting a 16.3 percent increase year-on-year and making up over half of the total China-Arab trade volume in that timeframe.

Arab Finance: The Ministry of Industry and Transport called on all industrial project owners in Egypt to participate through the first official Arab platform aimed at achieving industrial integration in various industrial sectors across Arab countries, according to a statement. The platform is one of the key initiatives of the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO). It aligns with the state's objectives to deepen Arab economic cooperation and industrial integration in light of the digital transformation. Designed to support connectivity between Arab factories, the platform aims to facilitate industrial and commercial exchange, while providing a digital database of requests and offers for industrial and mining products in Arab countries. It will also connect the production needs and capacities to create effective regional supply chains. Meanwhile, all products, production inputs, and spare parts will be available to all factories, bridging import gaps through achieving Arab industrial integration. Furthermore, the ministry invited interested Egyptian companies to participate and register for free on the Arab Platform for Future Minerals (APFM) to promote Arab mining resources and leverage investment opportunities in the Arab mining sector. UAE, other Arab countries reject foreign interference in Syria, condemn Israeli attacks

Amid the increased attacks on Syria, the UAE, along with other Arab countries, has issued a joint statement in regards to supporting the country's government and rebuilding. The statement comes after foreign ministers of the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Egypt held intensive talks over the past two days on the developments in Syria. They agreed on a unified position and joint efforts to support the Syrian government in rebuilding Syria on foundations that guarantee its security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and the rights of all its citizens. They also welcomed the agreement to end the crisis in As-Suwayda, and emphasised the need to implement it to protect Syria, its unity, and its citizens, in a manner that spares Syrian blood and ensures the protection of civilians, the rule of law, and the rule of law. The group also welcomed the commitment of Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara'a to hold accountable all those responsible for violations against Syrian citizens in As-Suwayda, and supporting all efforts to establish security, the rule of law, and the rule of law in As-Suwayda and throughout Syria, in addition to rejecting violence, sectarianism, and attempts to spread discord, incitement, and hatred. They further condemned and rejected the repeated Israeli attacks on the Syria, considering them a flagrant violation of international law and a blatant assault on Syria's sovereignty, destabilising its security, stability, territorial integrity, and citizens, and undermining the Syrian government's efforts to build a new Syria that achieves the aspirations and choices of its brotherly people. They emphasised that Syria's security and stability are a pillar of regional security and stability and a shared priority. Lastly, the ministers called on the international community to support the Syrian government in the reconstruction process, and called on the Security Council to assume its legal and moral responsibilities to ensure Israel's full withdrawal from the occupied Syrian territories, the cessation of all Israeli hostilities against Syria and interference in its affairs, and the implementation of Resolution 2766 and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
